Chevening Scholarships for International Students 2023

Chevening Scholarships for International Students. Chevening, which was first established in 1983, is the top fellowship and scholarship scheme in the UK. In order to enable them to join a professional community that will work to transform the world, it strives to support aspiring world leaders in their decision to study there.

It provides two awards, the Chevening Fellowship and the Chevening Scholarship, both of which are funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office. Both are awarded by British commissions and embassies around the world.

Chevening Scholarship Amount

Those who meet the criteria and want to pursue a 1-year Master’s degree in the UK are eligible for the Chevening Scholarship. It is a fully-funded award that covers all costs, including tuition/course fees up to £18,000, arrival and departure allowances, cost entry clearance/visas, TB testing, travel top-up allowances, monthly personal allowances for housing & living expenses, and economy airfare.

Contrarily, the Chevening Fellowship is a program for professionals in their mid-career who want to advance their knowledge and abilities through research, short courses, or internships in UK organizations.

The same is true for housing charges, airfare, and visa fees. It also offers a monthly stipend and an arrival allowance.

Eligibility Criteria

If you want to be eligible for the Chevening Scholarship, you must:

  • Citizenship of a nation or area that qualifies for Chevening
  • Possess a first-year undergraduate degree that is at least a 2:1 honors program in upper second class
  • Have worked for at least two years (2,800 hours).
  • Obtain a firm offer from 3 qualifying courses.
  • Two years after earning their scholarship awards, scholars are required to return to their home countries.

Likewise, prospective Chevening fellows must be nationals of nations or territories that qualify. They should, however, exhibit leadership potential as well as the interpersonal, intellectual, and personal traits that go along with it.

Fellows need to have a post-graduate degree in comparison to the scholarship’s undergraduate criterion. They should, as expected, be eligible for the program, complete their fellowship, and then return to their home nations for two years.

Regarding restrictions, neither the Chevening Scholarship nor Fellowship are available to British nationals (including dual citizens) or to refugees from nations that are not eligible for the program. A former UK-funded scholarship recipient, as well as anyone who works for Her Majesty’s government or one of the Chevening partner organizations, will also be ineligible.

How to Apply for the Chevening Scholarships for International Students

Chevening Scholarship

The selection of a course is the first step in the Chevening Scholarship application process. Three taught master’s programs that are Chevening qualified are available for students to select from. These should have a full-term duration of 9 to 12 months, with the term starting in the early fall.

The student may begin creating his or her profile in the Chevening scholarship online application system (OAS) after selecting an acceptable program. This typically includes questions on demographics or schooling, as well as others that need for answers of at least 100 words.

The applicant for the Chevening scholarship must attach two reference letters after completing the application. In the final stages of the selection process, the embassy will get in touch with these academic or professional referees.

Those who make the short list will be requested to appear for an interview at the British consulate or embassy in their locale. However, the applicant must first upload the aforementioned files to the OAS:

  • Education documents, i.e. transcripts and/or certificates
  • 2 reference letters
  • Short biography
  • The student must bring his/her passport to the interview as well.

Successful applicants will be informed of their status by early/mid-June.
