Graduate Research Scholarships (MRS) 2023-2024 is a fully-funded international scholarship. There are around 600 open scholarships for research-based master’s and doctorate degrees. This scholarship provides a $32,400 annual living allowance, a full fee offset, an Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) Single Membership, and a relocation stipend, among other incentives.

Benefits of the Graduate Research Scholarships

  • Full fee remission for up to two years for students pursuing a Master of Science by Research or for up to four years for students pursuing a doctorate.
  • Living allowance of $32,400 per year pro rata (2022 full-time study rate) for up to two years or up to three and a half years for students pursuing a Masters by Research or a doctorate. The living allowance may be indexed annually and includes paid sick, maternity, and parental leave in limited amounts.
  • Relocation allowance of $2,000 for students relocating from states or territories other than Victoria and $3,000 for international students.
  • Single Membership for Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for international students who require a student visa to study in Australia.

Fee reduction scholarships

  • Full fee remission for up to two years for students pursuing a Master of Science by Research or for up to four years for students pursuing a doctorate.

Eligibility of the Graduate Research Scholarships

To qualify for Melbourne Research Scholarships (MRS), candidates must satisfy the following requirements:

  • You must have applied and met the University of Melbourne’s entry requirements for a Master by research or Doctoral degree.
  • You must be actively studying at the University of Melbourne in a research degree program.

How to Apply for the Graduate Research Scholarships

  1. If you are a new student who has submitted an application for a graduate research course by the course’s application deadline, you will be automatically considered for the Graduate Research Scholarships. Within seven days of having filed your course application, you will receive news that a scholarship application has been added to your record.
  2. If you have accepted a graduate research course offer and deferred enrollment in order to be reconsidered for a scholarship, you must submit an online application form by October 31 of the following year in order to be considered for a scholarship. Within seven days of submitting the online form, you will receive notice that a scholarship application has been added to your file.
  3. If you are presently enrolled in a graduate research course and wish to be considered for a scholarship for the next year, you must submit an online application form by October 31. Within seven days of submitting the online form, you will receive notice that a scholarship application has been added to your file.
