The TED Fellows program identifies people who are working on ideas that shape the future, and offers them tools to enhance the power of their vision. Each year, a new group of TED Fellows from around the world and from all walks of life are welcomed into the international community for their extraordinary achievements, extraordinary courage, character strength, and ability to make a difference in their respective fields.

Eligibility of TED fellows program:
- The TED Fellows Program recognizes people working on-the-ground on world-changing ideas — the doers, makers, inventors, advocates, filmmakers and photographers, musicians and artists, educators, scientists, entrepreneurs, nonprofit leaders and human rights activists. If you are on a future-shaping mission and over the age of 18, you should apply.
- TED Fellows program is not an academic fellowship and non-traditional educations are welcome.
- In addition to outstanding accomplishment, commendable character and a good heart are also important traits the host look out for in applicants.
How to Apply for TED fellows program:
- Annually, the TED Fellows program selects a new group of extraordinary, multidisciplinary individuals by open application. Innovators on the rise in their respective fields who are doing bold and have original works of theirs are called on all over the world.
- Before filling out your TED Fellowship application, please review the tips provided. They’re designed to help you submit your best application possible.
The application process:
- To apply, applicant will submit an application online during the TED fellows program application cycle. Your written application is the primary means for showcasing your work, tell the host what makes your work unique and impactful. You should write clearly for a general audience and assume the host know nothing about your field. Only applications written in English are accepted. Late applications will be automatically discarded, so make hastes about it.
- Once your application has been received, the foundation start reading. Every application will be thoroughly read and therefore the selection process takes time. You can expect to hear from TED 8 months after the application closes. All applicants are acknowledged whether or not they have been selected to join the TED Fellows program.
Application Tips and Walk-through:
Apply early.
Applications are open for a month but you are advised not to wait until the last day to submit. The deadline is at 11:59pm UTC on the day applications are due. Late applications are not considered.
Be concise.
Quality over quantity. TED fellows are looking for as much information about you as possible but you are intentionally given limited space. This is because the host want you to zero in on what makes your work and background truly remarkable. Make sure to use clear, concise language and be specific in describing your work and achievements. Also be mindful of the character limits, which include spaces.
Non-traditional educations are welcome.
The TED Fellows program is not an academic fellowship. Your class rank and GPA are not the basic requirements but rather your potentials. TED Fellows want to see you in your many dimensions including what you have achieved, what you are currently working on and what you want to build in the future. A formal or traditional education is not necessary if you have done something laudable.
What makes you exceptional.
Winners will be chosen from a very talented pool of applicants, so you are encouraged to clearly articulate your achievements. Share all of your most impressive projects, from new inventions and innovations to groundbreaking research or advancements in human rights. If you are working as part of a group, it is important that you highlight your specific contributions to the larger project.
Link wisely.
Links to your website, portfolio, references or best press help TED fellows get to know you better. Even consider creating a website or updating an existing one with your most high-impact projects so that a full understanding of your work can be attained. Make sure your links are all active.
Save an offline copy.
There is no way to save an in-progress application, so you are recommended to compose your answers offline. TED Fellows will not be responsible for text that gets lost in the application process.
The selection process and criteria:
- TED Fellows will be selected by the program staff, with extensive reference checking, fact checking and consultation with experts across all fields.
- Your written application is central to selection process. Every application is read and World Scholarship Vault team encourage you to read the tips for applying before submitting your application.
- Applicants may receive requests for additional information from TED team but unless they reach out to you, no further information is required from you.
- Ultimately, there is no algorithm for how they select. Fellows are selected based on their accomplishments in their respective fields, the potential impact of their work and also their character. The ideal applicant is collaborative in their pursuits and in their nature, and is at a moment in their career to maximize the support of the TED community.
