Refugee Scholarship UK

Over 70 UK universities offer scholarships for refugee and asylum-seeking students to allow them to study, encourages and supports universities to create and maintain scholarship program and help to advertise these opportunities to applicants. People who are seeking asylum in the UK are often locked out of university. Most are classed as international students, meaning that they are charged higher fees. On top of this, most are ineligible for student loans and do not have the right to work to earn money to pay their fees or cover their living costs. Equal access to higher education is a right, enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights – but it is not a reality for people in the UK who have been forced to flee their homes because of war and persecution.

Eligibility:

• Full-time undergraduate applicants are eligible
• MBChB and BDS courses are ineligible
• You must have applied for asylum in the UK before you applied to UCAS
• Full-time, non-clinical postgraduate applicants (taught and research) are eligible
• You must have applied for asylum in the UK before you applied to study at The University of Manchester

How to Apply:

• We only accept applications made via our online form. However, we have provided a word version of the form to allow you to prepare your answers in advance.
• Please note, you don’t need to complete the application all at once – you can choose to register with us at the top of the form, save your progress and sign back in anytime but please remember you need to choose to save your form each time (there is no autosave!)
• Please note if you are offered a grant, you will be required to provide confirmation from the university that you have registered for that academic year. The funds will be paid to you on receipt of that, likely September/October 2022.
