Cancer For College Scholarship Program 2022

Cancer For College Scholarship Program sponsored by the Cancer for College Charity is designed to help cancer survivors on college campuses. The Charity was established by Paul Craig Pollard, a three-time cancer survivor and amputee. Since inception in 1993, they have provided over $5million in educational support to over 1000 survivors. They also offer awardees educational experiences, allowing scholars to meet and learn from some of the powerful and successful people who support the cause.

The following scholarships are provided by the Charity;

  1. Carolinas Scholarship: in addition to meeting all requirements for a general scholarship, an applicant must either be from or attending school in the states of North or South Carolina.
  2. GoandbeGreat Scholarship: this is awarded to a student who will use their education to inspire others to live their life to the fullest; a visionary, a leader and a loyal friend. In addition to meeting all requirements for a general scholarship, an applicant must share their favorite movie line.
  3. Dan X Wray Memorial Big Dream Scholarship: in addition to the general requirements, applicants must tell the selection committee about their “BIG DREAM” and how they plan to use their college education to make that a reality.
  4. Pacific Northwest Scholarship: in addition to meeting all requirements for a general scholarship, an applicant must either be from or attending school in the states of Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Alaska, or Montana.
  5. Cherry Hawk Scholarship: in addition to meeting all requirements for a general scholarship, an applicant must be from or attending school in southern California.
  6. The Dear Jack Foundation Matt C Wiernty Music Education Scholarship: in addition to meeting all requirements for a general scholarship, an applicant must be a music major or related field of study with an ability to express how you plan to pursue music as a career.
  7. Frank The Tank Scholarship :in addition to meeting all requirements for a general scholarship, an applicant must be attending, or planning to attend, California State University, Fullerton.
  8. Henry Streuli Scholarship: in addition to meeting all requirements for a general scholarship, an applicant must either be from or attending school in the states of Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Alaska, or Montana.
  9. The Lindner Family Scholarship :scholarship awards $10K each year to a cancer survivor from or attending school in Southern California. All majors welcome to be considered during the application process.
  10. Leonard Family Entrepreneurial Spirit Scholarship: in addition to meeting all requirements for a general scholarship, an applicant must be a business major or related field with a desire to pursue a career in the food service industry, and potentially own and operate a restaurant.
  11. Ross Skelton Memorial Scholarship: award of scholarships to survivors who wish to pursue a career in architecture. In addition to meeting all requirements for a general scholarship, an applicant must be an engineering major either be from or attending school in the states of North or South Carolina.
  12. Wohl Family Scholarship: in addition to meeting all requirements for a general scholarship, an applicant must be from and attending school in Southern California.

Eligibility for the Cancer For College Scholarship Program

To be eligible, applicants must;

  1. Have been diagnosed with cancer.
  2. A legal resident in the US.
  3. Be able to provide all the documents required.

How to apply

Required documents

  • The first two pages of the *appropriate 2020 tax return. Applicants will need either:
    • Your parents’ 2020 tax return (jointly or individually based on filing status) if you are claimed as a dependent, or
    • Your personal 2020 tax return if you are independent.

*If you or your parents did not file a tax return, you must upload proof of any income such as SSI, W-2, Snap Benefits, or other written documentation

  • Last two years of academic transcripts. High School, College, or a combination depending on your year in school. Unofficial transcripts are acceptable.
  • Confirmation of diagnosis letter. Must be completed on medical letterhead by your Oncologist, primary care physician, or nurse.
  • Optional recommendation letter from someone OUTSIDE of your family. This can be requested via email through the application, or personally uploaded if you already have a copy.

Other requirements:

  • This application also requires a written personal statement (maximum of 1000 words) and video essay upload (prompts to follow).
  • Some specialty scholarships require additional essays and/or uploads.
