About the Horatio Alger Association  Scholarships

As one of the largest need-based college scholarship programs in the United States, the Horatio Association Alger Scholarships specifically assists high school students who have faced and overcome great obstacles in their young lives. While many programs are directed primarily to recognizing academic achievement or leadership potential, the Horatio Alger Association seeks students who have exhibited determination, integrity, and perseverance in overcoming adversity, as well as have critical financial need.

Eligibility for the Horatio Alger Association Scholarships

To be eligible to apply for any of the Horatio Alger Undergraduate Scholarships, applicants must meet the following criteria:

1. Be a United States citizen.
2. Be enrolled as a full-time high school student in the United States.
3. Maintain a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0; and
4. Be progressing normally toward graduation with plans to enter a college in the United States no later than the fall following graduation.
5. Exhibit a strong commitment to pursue and complete a bachelor’s degree at an accredited non-profit public or private institution in the United States (students may start their studies at a two-year institution and then transfer to a four-year institution).
6. Demonstrate critical financial need ($55,000 or lower adjusted gross family income is required),
7. Be involved in co-curricular and community service activities.
8. Display integrity and perseverance in overcoming adversity.

Benefits of the Horatio Alger Association scholarships

• Selected applicant’s tuition fees are fully-funded alongside other important bills.
• You also receive an all-expenses paid trip to Washington, D.C., during the spring of your senior year to participate in the National Scholars Conference.

How to Apply

All documents must be uploaded through the online application.  No documents submitted by mail, email or fax will be accepted. No exceptions.  Documents submitted via mail, email, or fax will be destroyed for the applicant’s security.

Documents Required

• Income tax return.

Deadline

The 4-year undergraduate application is available annually from December 1 and closes March 15.
