The Terry Fox Humanitarian Award Program was established to honor Terry Fox’s extraordinary life and contributions to cancer research and public awareness.

The award program is an investment in young Canadian humanitarians who aspire to Terry Fox’s high standards.

Recipients of the Terry Fox Award are eligible to earn the Award for a maximum of four years, provided they maintain a solid academic standing, a high degree of humanitarian work, and exemplary personal conduct.

Eligibility

  • Must have a solid academic record.
  • Citizen of Canada or landed immigrant required.
  • Must be a student graduating from secondary (high) school or completing their first year of CÉGEP.
  • Must participate in volunteer humanitarian initiatives (for which they are not compensated).
  • Enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program at a Canadian institution or making plans to do so. Or for a second year of CÉGEP during the next academic year.

50. National Essay Contest

Brief introduction

The National Essay Contest is one of the most Easy and Unclaimed Scholarships in Canada; all that is required is a 750-word essay in French.

To be eligible for the award, candidates must submit an essay on the topic.

In a future where anything is conceivable, how will the food we eat and the manner in which it is produced differ?

Only novice authors are permitted to apply. Professional writers and authors do not qualify.

Eligibility

  • Students in 10th, 11th, or 12th grade enrolled in a French curriculum
  • Participate in the French for the Future National Essay Competition and choose a particular university linked with the scholarship.
  • Meet the University’s overall eligibility requirements as well as the program-specific requirements.
  • Enroll full-time in a program and attend at least two French-taught courses per semester at the chosen university.

There are two categories of students who can apply for this scholarship;

Category 1: Second language French (FSL)

  • Students whose first language is not French or who are enrolled in Core French, Extended Core French, Basic French, French Immersion, or any other version or type of FSL program accessible in their province or territory of residence, but who do not meet the French First Language criteria.

Category 2: First-language French (FFL)

  • Students for whom French is their first language
  • Students who speak, write, and comprehend French fluently in their native tongue
  • Students who speak French regularly with one or both parents at home;
  • Students who currently attend or have attended a French First Language school for more than three years in the past six years.

51. The Dalton Camp Award

Brief introduction

The Dalton Camp Award is a $10,000 reward given to the winner of a media and democracy essay contest. In addition, there is a $2,500 student reward.

All submissions must be in English and no more than 2,000 words.

The competition aims to encourage Canadians to favor Canadian media and journalism content.

Eligibility

  • Any Canadian citizen or permanent resident may submit an essay for the $10,000 award, regardless of age, student status, or occupation.
  • However, the $2,500 Student Prize is exclusively open to students. So long as they are enrolled at an accredited postsecondary institution.
